Patiala: Trio units of Talwandi Sabo Power Limited (TSPL) thermal On Friday, the last operational unit of the power generation unit also came to a standstill due to a technical fault. The unit was already running at half load capacity for two days.
One unit of TSPL has been closed since March this year, while the other unit was closed on Sunday due to a technical snag.
The state’s power crisis has deepened with the three units of the 1,980 MW plant now non-operational. The 210 MW unit of Ropar thermal plant is also not functioning since Wednesday night after the boiler leaked.
There is power shortage in the state and thus, PSPCL has been forced to implement power regulatory measures in the south and border areas to meet the power shortage. PSPCL cut power for more than six hours in some parts of the district on Thursday Punjab. In Kandi area, there was power cut for five hours, while in some urban areas there was power cut for about three hours. Rural areas faced power cuts for four hours.
TSPL officials in Mansa said the unit that was tripped on Friday would be restarted after 48 hours, while the unit that was shut down on Sunday would be operational after a week. Earlier, the plant had promised to make the unit operational soon. A TSPL spokesperson said the unit, which was shut down since March, is expected to be operational by the end of this month.
“The components for the unit that have been shut since March have come from China. The company has spent manifold to ensure timely delivery of the same. Normally, it will take around 10 months to get restored, but with the support of PSPCL, TSPL is ensuring its operation within 4 months. With the ban on imported coal, TSPL is largely dependent on domestic coal with high ash content, resulting in frequent breakdown of units. Unit No. 1 which broke down last Sunday has some turbine issues and a team of Korean engineers, along with BHEL experts (engineers sent by PSPCL), GE engineers and TSPL engineers to identify and fix the problem Working day and night. The unit is likely to be restored soon. The second unit which is halted today has minor technical snag and will be restored within 48 hours.
