Patiala: A car carrying three soldiers fell into a ditch Bhakra Channel One of them died near Abowal in Patiala while the other went missing.
The incident happened around 3.30 pm on Tuesday when the car slammed into the canal after the driver lost control.
Police said a constable was sitting in the back seat of the car and managed to get out of the vehicle, but the other two could not open the doors.
Police said that the search operation is on to trace the missing jawan.
The deceased constable has been identified as Jagmeet Singh of Sangrur district while the missing constable has been identified as Manpreet Singh of Patiala.
Police said that Kamaljeet Singh, a resident of Patiala’s Devigarh, managed to get out safely.
Kamaljit Singh said that both Jagmeet and Manpreet were his friends and all three belonged to the same unit.
“Two of us were posted in Kashmir while the other was posted in some other state. On Monday, one of us had called the other two and wanted to meet after which we gathered on Tuesday. But while returning our car fell into the canal.
