Kolkata Knight Riders head coach Brendon McCullum admitted that Punjab Kings deserved a win against their side as the KL Rahul-led outfit “seized the crucial moments” during their IPL Play. Punjab Kings increased their chances of making the IPL playoffs with a five-wicket win over KKR on Friday night.
McCullum said in the virtual press conference, “I thought we played another good game of cricket tonight (but) Punjab Kings deserved a win as they seized the crucial moments, but we definitely played a hand And we got a really good game of cricket.” KKR captain Eoin Morgan has not been among the runs, and the former New Zealand wicketkeeper is hoping for some runs from the England skipper.

“Obviously he (Morgan) is one of our senior players, he is one of our international batsmen and as a captain in his own right, he would love to contribute a lot of runs, in fact he is very good. He captains the team, but look, you want some more runs from him, no doubt about it. That said, senior Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib-al-Hasan is in the mix for selection.
McCullum also admitted that it was difficult to balance the team without Andre Russell. “In terms of balance, when you take out a world-class all-rounder like Andre Russell, it is always difficult to balance your side,” he added.
Meanwhile, Punjab Kings bowling coach Damien Wright praised skipper Rahul for his crucial knock of 67 runs. “Look, I thought his innings was fantastic, we were quite aggressive with KL from the other end and he played a real anchor role for us. The former Australian first-class cricketer said, “I would have loved to see him there at the end, but I thought he had a great innings tonight and he is such a class-player.”
Mohammed Shami and Arshdeep Singh shone in the death overs for Punjab Kings and the bowling coach gave credit to their training. “Look, I would say, it totally depends on how they train and apply themselves. It has been one area of our game that we have been strong (bowling in the death) playing in Dubai And I thought their last two overs were the difference in the game.” They both work really hard and it’s just paying off.
