Chandigarh: The Punjab government on Thursday claimed to have cleared all the pending dues of the sugarcane farmers by depositing the last installment of Rs 75 crore in their accounts.
Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann said the state government had released the payments through Sugarfed a day before and the dues were transferred to the farmers’ accounts on Thursday. He said with this payment of Rs 75 crore, the mills in the state have cleared all the pending arrears. Till now, Rs 619.62 crore have been paid to the sugarcane farmers, he said. tnn
