Punjab Election Result: Charanjit Singh Channi resigned from the post of Chief Minister after losing the election. Chandigarh News – Times of India

Chandigarh: Outgoing Chief Minister after holding a cabinet meeting through video conferencing regarding the recommendation to dissolve the 15th Punjab Assembly. Charanjit Singh Channi Submitted his resignation to Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Friday.
Talking to reporters, Channi said, “A new party has been brought to power and as per procedure, a cabinet meeting was called. I have submitted my resignation to the Governor and he has asked me and the cabinet members to continue till the new government is sworn in. We accept the verdict of the voters and will continue to serve the people.
Asked whether his 111-day performance did not reassure voters, Channi said the issue was discussed in the cabinet meeting as well and appealed to the new government to continue with its initiatives for public welfare. These include the decision to reduce electricity duty, fuel duty and sand prices.
“People of Punjab have voted for ‘Badwal’ and we are hopeful that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will fulfill the promises made to the people,” he said. We will cooperate with the new government.”
Channi was accompanied by cabinet ministers Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa and Amarinder Singh Raja Waring.
A spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office said that the Governor of Punjab was authorized to dissolve the state legislature in accordance with sub-clause (b) of clause (2) of Article 174 of the Constitution of India. The move, being a constitutional requirement, would eventually pave the way for the formation of the 16th Punjab Legislative Assembly.
