Punjab Election 2022: SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia will fight only from Amritsar East

SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia on Tuesday said he will not contest from the Majitha assembly seat and will contest only from Amritsar East from where he has entered the fray against Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu. The former minister further said that his wife Ganeev Kaur will contest from Majithia assembly constituency in his place.

Ganiev had filed his nomination papers from Majitha seat on Monday. A few days back, the Shiromani Akali Dal chief had fielded Majithia from Amritsar East against Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu.

He was earlier nominated from Majitha assembly constituency and also filed his nomination papers from this seat. Addressing the media in Amritsar, Majithia said that after SAD fielded him from the Amritsar East assembly seat, the people of this constituency asked him which seat he would represent if he won from both the seats.

He said that this question prompted him to contest from only one seat and decided not to contest from Majitha assembly constituency. Majithia said, I will contest from Amritsar East seat. Majithia has been representing the Majitha assembly constituency since 2007. Majithia, a three-time MLA, hit out at Navjot Sidhu for not doing any development work in the Amritsar East constituency. Sidhu had last week challenged Majithia to contest from his constituency only by giving up the Majitha assembly seat.
