Punjab: Demand for cancellation of candidature in Mukerian | Chandigarh News – Times of India

Mukerian: The Congress’ strategy of retaining most of the sitting MLAs to avoid the blasts doesn’t seem to be working at all. Soon after the ticket was announced to Mukerian MLA Indu Bala, a rebellion broke out in the local unit, and some local party leaders joined hands to ensure her defeat. He said that all the leaders who were part of the mafia or earned money from illegal mining were given tickets.
After holding a meeting with party workers here, the local party functionaries announced that eight of them have joined hands and one of them will be fielded. He said that they are also approaching the United Samaj Morcha (SSM) to join hands. He said that if this happens then his candidate will be able to defeat Bala.
Congress councilor Ranjodh Singh, who announced the collective decision of the local party rebels, said that he had already warned the party against giving ticket to Badal and they are warning once again. “We will ensure that he loses. Congress has displayed a corrupt image. All the goons (goons), those parts of the mafia and those who make money from illegal mining have been given tickets again. Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu had promised to clean the party. That he will not allow any corruption, but now it seems hollow. We have decided that one out of eight of us will contest the elections.”
He said Bala was trailing in all the internal surveys conducted by the party. Ranjodh said that by Friday he was given the impression that he would be replaced.
He also attacked state Congress working president and minister Sangat Singh Gilzian, and took a dig at Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and Sidhu, saying the two were bound to fight one day.
Other rebels include Congress district vice president Tarsem Singh Minhas, Zilla Parishad members Jaswant Singh Randhawa, Sumit Dadwal and Hajipur block president Kulbhushan Sohal and local leader Interjit Singh Khalsa. “We are shocked by his candidature,” Khalsa said.
