Hours after the arrest of Waris Punjab De chief and Khalistani sympathizer Amritpal Singh, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said on Sunday that action would be taken against those trying to disrupt the country’s peace and law and order. Police said that Amritpal Singh was arrested from Moga in Punjab.

Bhagwant Mann said in a televised statement, “We will not harass any innocent person. We do not do vendetta politics…”

After his arrest, Amritpal Singh is being taken to Dibrugarh Jail in Assam. Meanwhile, security has been beefed up in Assam.

AAP leader and Delhi minister Saurabh Bhardwaj said, “The Punjab government handled it in a sensitive manner. No violence was reported. It is a big achievement for the Punjab Police.”

Former Punjab DGP Shashikant said, “All this (Amritpal Singh’s arrest) was very well organized and choreographed by his masters sitting abroad. Was also giving support.”

Meanwhile, Amritpal Singh’s uncle Sukhchain Singh said that his family would fight a legal battle against his arrest.

SAD leader Daljit Singh Cheema said, “If the police had acted properly, this arrest would have happened earlier. There was no need for this drama. Now the arrest happened peacefully, what happened in Punjab.”

Union Minister Anurag Thakur said, “Strict action should be taken against those who spread terror and fear. Punjab (police) would have taken a little more time, it (Amritpal Singh’s arrest) would have been a little sooner if it had been better.”
