Chandigarh, October 13 | Laying shoulder to the corpse of the martyr, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Channi on Wednesday paid tribute to 26-year-old constable Gajan Singh, who was cremated with full military honors at his native village Pachranda in Nurpur Bedi in Ropar district.

The Chief Minister along with Assembly Speaker KP Singh paid floral tributes and participated in the Ardas.

Channi along with the martyr’s nephew and his father lit the pyre of Veer, who made the supreme sacrifice in an encounter with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch sector on October 11.

Sharing his sympathies with the bereaved family members, the Chief Minister said that the unprecedented sacrifice of Gajan Singh would inspire his fellow soldiers to perform their duties with utmost dedication and commitment to uphold the sovereignty and integrity of the country. .

Sepoy Gajjan Singh, who married eight months ago, was the youngest of four brothers and had joined the army nine years ago.

They got married in February and a photograph of them in a wedding dress holding the flag of the farmers’ union was widely circulated on social media.

The martyr is survived by his wife Harpreet Kaur and parents Charan Singh and Malkit Kaur.
