Punjab Assembly Elections: Aam Aadmi Party brainstormed, will soon decide on the candidate of Mohali seat

With the Punjab Assembly elections approaching, all the major parties have geared up their gears and started shortlisting candidates for various assembly constituencies.

While Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has swapped the Mohali seat with its alliance partner Bahujan Samaj Party and is considering the name of his election candidate, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) – which came second in the 2017 assembly polls – is in the final stages of finalizing its name as well.

AAP has several possible candidates this time, including former mayor Kulwant Singh, social activist Sonia Mann, AAP’s youth leader Gurtej Pannu and Mohali Vyapar Mandal president Vineet Verma.

Kulwant Singh’s ‘Azad Group’, a faction separate from the SAD, managed to break into the SAD’s vote bank in the Municipal Corporation (MC) elections and managed to win ten wards.

Kulwant Singh also went to welcome the Chief Minister of Delhi and National Convener of AAP. Arvind KejriwalAfter which the speculation of him contesting the election on AAP ticket had intensified. However, party sources said that nothing has been finalized yet and other names are also being considered.

Sonia Manan, who has been associated with the farmers’ movement for a long time, is also being considered a potential.

Gurtej Singh Pannu, who has been working in this field for the last two years, is also among the potential people as he is working as a youth leader of the party. The name of Mohali Business Board chairman Vineet Verma is also included.

If AAP sources are to be believed, it is too early to say anything as the party will field only one candidate who will be able to give a tough fight to the opposition candidates.

“The party performed well in the 2017 elections, it managed to garner around 40,000 votes and came second. The party will soon announce the name of its candidate for Mohali.
