Punjab: 57.9kg heroin seized, BSF man hurt in shootout with smugglers | Amritsar News – Times of India

GURDASPUR: A Border Security Force (BSF) trooper was injured in exchange of fire with cross-border Pakistani smugglers on Friday, leading to recovery of 57.9 kg heroin along with arms and ammunition.
BSF DIG, Gurdaspur sector, Prabhakar Joshi said that after a BSF patrol spotted some suspicious movement at the India-Pakistan international border in the Chandu Wadala Border outpost area at around 5.10 am, head constable Gyan Singh challenged the miscreants, who opened fire on them, forcing Gyan Singh and constable Raju Biswas to take retaliatory action.

During the exchange of fire, Gyan Singh sustained bullet injuries on his hand and head and was evacuated to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital in Amritsar. All the smugglers fled when BSF opened fire, leaving behind the drugs, arms and ammunition.
Joshi said that a search of the area yielded 57.9 kg heroin in 47 packets, 7 packets of opium 1 Chinese-made Norinco pistol with 2 magazines, 44 round of.3 caliber, 74 rounds of AK-47 with 4 magazines, 19mm Pietro Beretta pistol with 1 magazine besides a shawl, muffler and cap.
Sources said the Pakistani smugglers had opened fire from across the border and could have been assisted by Pakistan Rangers,
