Wadettiwar questioned how an unregistered car was allowed on Pune roads and how the pub served alcohol to the minor.

Leader of the Opposition in the Maharashtra State Assembly and senior Congress party leader Vijay Wadettiwar has demanded a judicial inquiry into the Pune Porsche accident which claimed two lives. The accident involved a 17-year-old son of a businessman who rammed his Porsche car into a motorcycle, killing a couple on the spot. The investigation revealed that the luxury car had no registration number, and the minor driver was seen consuming alcohol at a pub before the accident.

Wadettiwar questioned how an unregistered car was allowed on Pune roads and how the pub served alcohol to the minor. In his reaction on the microblogging website ‘X’, Wadettiwar said, “The alcohol test of the minor came back negative, but CCTV footage shows him consuming alcohol. This raises many questions about the investigation. How do pubs and bars serve alcohol to minors? Why do the local corporation and police allow these pubs and hotels to ignore the rules?” He also questioned the delay in arresting the father of the minor. Wadettiwar further demanded that Pune police should also face scrutiny in this case.

The businessman father of the juvenile accused was arrested by the Pune crime branch and Sambhaji Nagar police in a joint operation. He had gone into hiding immediately after the accident. In the joint action, Pune crime branch and Sambhaji Nagar police arrested him, his driver and another person from a hotel in Sambhaji Nagar city. Early Tuesday morning, the Pune crime branch raided the hotel where the father was hiding and arrested him. He will be produced in the Pune court on Tuesday.

Following an order from Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis to expedite the investigation, Pune police have made significant progress. In the last 24 hours, they have arrested seven accused related to this case under different sections of the IPC. The Pune police have also arrested the owner of the pub that served alcohol to the minor, flouting norms.
