PSG’s medical staff “recommended a ligament repair operation” following Neymar’s injury during the Ligue 1 game against Nice

Paris Saint-Germain said on Monday Neymar would undergo ankle surgery and be out for three to four months.

The club said the Brazilian player suffered the injury against Lille in Ligue 1 on February 19. “There have been several episodes of instability in the right ankle in recent years,” its medical staff “recommended a ligament repair operation” in Doha. .

PSG, still awaiting a maiden Champions League title, head into the last 16 against Bayern Munich in Germany on Wednesday in a bid to overturn a 1-0 first leg deficit.

Neymar, who has scored 18 goals in all competitions this season, was in fine form for the French champions ahead of the World Cup break.

But the 31-year-old has only netted twice in eight league matches since returning from Qatar, where Brazil lost to Croatia in the quarter-finals.

Neymar had earlier missed the Champions League knock-out stage matches in 2018, 2019 and 2021 due to injuries.
