EPFO Alert: There is an important update for you, government or private sector employees who are subscribers of Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF). Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) subscribers will have time till September to link their Aadhar card with Provident Fund (PF) accounts.
According to the report, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has made it mandatory for its subscribers to link Aadhaar card with PF UAN (Universal Account Number) so that employers and other benefits can continue to receive funds in their PF accounts.
According to the order issued by EPFO, the last date for linking Aadhaar with PF UAN is September 1, 2021. The deadline has been extended from June 1, 2021, which was earlier decided by the EPFO.
“ECR will be allowed to be filed only for those members whose Aadhaar number is linked and verified with UAN, ensure Aadhaar seeding in respect of all the contributory members so that they can avail uninterrupted services of EPFO and avoid any inconvenience to,” the EPFO had earlier mentioned in a circular.
The Ministry of Labor amended Section 142 of the Social Security Code 2020 to implement this new rule. Section 142 provides for the establishment of the identity of an employee or an unorganized worker or any other person by means of Aadhaar number for receiving benefits and availing services under the Code.
“Linking of PAN and Aadhaar card is a basic requirement of Know Your Customer (KYC) for all banks, PPF accounts and EPF accounts. Failure to do so will lead to issues like interest credit and rejection of withdrawal claims from your PF accounts by employers as an enforcement measure. This is a basic enforcement measure,” said Vidisha Krishna, partner at law firm MV Kini.
If your Aadhar details are not linked with PF UAN, you will not get the funds in your PF account and also you will be deprived of other EPF benefits. This includes COVID-19 advances announced last month and insurance benefits linked to PF accounts.
