Protest for demand for improvement in Lansdowne market, Mayor assured to solve the problem

The last reform was done in 1975. Many years have passed since then. Then it goes without saying that the Lansdowne market has not corrected. The work of a new building has started on a small part of seven bighas of land on top of it but it is still going on. In such a situation, the traders of Lansdowne market went on strike on Tuesday demanding many things including market reforms. Kolkata Municipality Mayor Firhad Hakim has assured to solve the problem after listening to the traders.

Traders claim that the roof of the building has collapsed due to lack of repairs for many years. A tree has grown on the wall. There are heaps of garbage in many places. As a result, Lansdowne Market has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Hence traders demand that there is an urgent need for correction in this market. Incidentally the same day Firhad Hakim went there and held a meeting. After meeting the mayor, the traders expressed their displeasure.

According to traders, the number of shopkeepers in the market has come down due to the removal of parking adjacent to the market. Apart from this, Kolkata Municipality has also sent a huge bill by increasing the rent of the shop. He demanded that along with the reforms, the rent of the shop should also be reduced. A trader from Lansdowne market said, ‘All complaints have been made against the girl. We have informed the girl about the five-point demand. We want our problems to be resolved quickly by fulfilling our demands. After talking to the traders, Firhad promised to reduce the rent of the shop. “We also want to improve the market,” he said. For this everyone will have to discuss together. There will be no politics in this.
