Prophet Remarks Row: More than 400 arrested so far in case of disturbance after Friday prayers, situation tense in West Bengal and Jharkhand

So far, more than 400 people have been arrested by the police in connection with the riots in the name of protest against BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma after Namaz on Friday. The Uttar Pradesh Police has so far arrested 316 people. At the same time, 100 people have been arrested so far in Howrah and Murshidabad in West Bengal.

The authorities in Uttar Pradesh also vandalized the “illegal” houses of the accused on the second day i.e. Sunday. At the same time, a group of people attacked a local train at Bethuadahari railway station in Nadia district of West Bengal on Sunday evening. It is being told that the train was badly damaged in the attack. There were also sporadic incidents of violence and protests, while prohibitory orders continued in some parts of Howrah and Murshidabad districts.

So far 316 arrested in the case of nuisance

So far, 316 people have been arrested by the police in the riots in the name of protests in Uttar Pradesh. Maximum 92 people have been arrested from Prayagraj. At the same time, 79 people have been arrested from Saharanpur.

Additional Director General of Police Law and Order Prashant Kumar said that after Friday prayers, an attempt was made to spoil the atmosphere in a total of nine districts. In this, four motorcycles and a PAC truck were set on fire in Prayagraj and another motorcycle was damaged.

At the same time, two vehicles were overturned in Saharanpur. During this 13 policemen were injured. In which three policemen and officers of police and administration were injured in Prayagraj. Eight policemen and two policemen in Moradabad were injured during the riots in Ambedkarnagar. So far 316 people have been arrested while taking action in these cases.

Apart from Saharanpur and Prayagraj, 51 people have been arrested from Hathras, 35 from Moradabad, 34 from Ambedkarnagar, 15 from Firozabad, six from Aligarh and four from Jalaun. An FIR has also been registered in Lakhimpur, but no arrest has been made so far.

Things are tense in Jharkhand’s Ranchi and West Bengal’s Howrah districts following violence over BJP leaders’ remarks on Prophet Mohammad. However, no new violence was reported from both the states. Section 144 is in force in many areas of Howrah, while internet service is still suspended in many areas of Howrah and Murshidabad. Security has been tightened in the areas of violence. BJP leader Shuvendu Adhikari going to Howrah was stopped by the police on the way. 25 FIRs have been registered in Ranchi nuisance case. Also internet service has been restored in the district after 33 hours and section 144 has been removed from six out of 12 police stations.

Jharkhand Police says that 3500 security personnel have been deployed for surveillance in sensitive areas in Ranchi. Two people were killed and more than two dozen people were seriously injured in the violence here on Friday. Ranchi Senior SP Surendra Kumar Jha said that personnel of Rapid Action Force, Anti Terrorism Squad, Special Task Force and District Police have been deployed at sensitive places including 38 important pockets. Along with this, 50 motorcycle petrol teams have also been installed.

25 FIRs registered in Ranchi
He said that 25 FIRs have been registered. These include 22 named and thousands of unnamed people. No one has been arrested yet. Investigation is going on based on inputs from Intelligence, CID and social media. On police firing, he said that it was done as a last resort. We followed all the rules before firing, but the crowd turned aggressive and out of control. In such a situation, the help of firing had to be taken. He said that the matter is under investigation, so he will not say much on it.

Section 144 removed from six out of 12 police station areas
Ranchi Deputy Commissioner of Police Chhavi Ranjan said that out of 12 police station areas, section 144 has been removed from six. Some restrictions will continue in Kotwali, Lower Bazar, Chutia, Daily Market, Doranda and Hindipiri police station areas. However, people have been allowed to purchase essential items. Haji Haseem, president of the Daily Market Traders Association, said that 1100 shops remained closed. Internet service was restored in Ranchi district after about 33 hours. Internet service, which was suspended at 7 pm on Friday, was restored at 4 am on Sunday.

Relatives of deceased youths claim they were not involved in the protest
The families of Mohammad Mudassir Kaifi and Mohammad Sahil, who were killed in police firing, have claimed that they were not involved in the protests. Sahil’s brother Shakib Ansari said that his brother had gone to Ranchi’s main road after Friday prayers for some work. He was not a part of the protest but was shot and died. Kaifi’s father Afzal said that he did not know at all how his minor son got shot as he was not involved in the protest. RIMS PRO DK Sinha said that according to hospital records, Kaifi’s age is 22 and Sahil is 24. He died during treatment in the hospital. Treatment of 13 seriously injured people is also going on in RIMS itself.

100 arrested for violence in Bengal
On the other hand, the Bengal Police said on Sunday that there is an atmosphere of uneasy calm in Howrah. Peace was also maintained at Beldanga, Rajinagar and Shaktipur police stations of Murshidabad in the state. Over 100 people have been arrested for their involvement in the violence in Howrah and Murshidabad districts. Police conducted marches in Howrah’s Uluberia, Panchla, Jagatballavpur and Dhulagarh on Saturday night and security personnel have been deployed in sensitive areas. Police say that no new incident of violence has been reported from both the districts. Security has also been beefed up at Park Circus, Kidderpur, Rajabazar and Mallikbazar in Kolkata.

Shuvendu stopped from going to Howrah said, will go to court
Shuvendu Adhikari, leader of the opposition in the Bengal Assembly on his way to violence-hit Howrah, was stopped by the police at Tamluk in East Medinipur district on Sunday. After a two-hour drama, he was allowed to proceed on the condition that he would go straight to Kolkata without stopping in the violence-hit district. BJP leader Adhikari said that he will go to court on Monday on this issue. Police claimed that stopping the officer from going to Howrah was a precautionary measure as Section 144 was imposed in several areas of the district. His visit could lead to law and order problems.
