The Gujarat Police has arrested eight people for pasting posters bearing the prints of the shoes of suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma. 5 people were arrested in Rajkot, while 3 were arrested in Surat. Apart from pasting posters, the accused allegedly tried to create unrest by circulating a message on WhatsApp, asking Muslims to ensure that what happened in Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand is repeated in Gujarat as well.

In the last 2 to 3 days, a WhatsApp video had gone viral in which two people could be seen pasting the shoe print symbol on Nupur Sharma’s poster. The text message also tells Muslims that merely printing 40-50 posters will not serve their purpose, but more needs to be done to ensure repeatability of incidents in Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand.

After closely examining the viral video and message, the police were able to trace Mohd Tawfiq Mohd Rafig Shaikh.
