Prohibitory orders in place in Lucknow till November 8

Prohibitory orders under section 144 have been imposed in Lucknow Police Commissionerate ahead of upcoming Navratri, Dussehra, Deepawali, Bhai Dooj, Barawafat and Chhath festival. The police and district administration on Tuesday night decided to extend the prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC till November 8 in view of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. This means that any event involving a gathering of more than five people would require the approval of the police and district administration. Joint Commissioner of Police Piyush Mordia said that anti-social elements may try to spoil the atmosphere during festivals. Therefore, in exercise of the powers under section 144 of CrPC, these orders have been passed for the maintenance of peace and harmony and for the protection of public and property. Mordia said that all the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs should be followed for setting up Durga Puja pandals and conducting Dussehra celebrations.
