The post of director of the Indian Institute of Management in Kolkata fell vacant last March. The post had fallen vacant after the tenure of the then female director Anju Seth ended. Then a reputed company like IIM started looking for suitable person for the post of director. This search starts from among the intelligent and capable people of the country and abroad. It was a big challenge for the company to bring a qualified person to this position. Finally Professor Uttam Kumar Sarkar has been appointed as the Director of the institution. His name was announced on Wednesday. They have been asked to understand the responsibility at the earliest. His name has been nominated by the company’s board of directors.
He has done BTech, MTech and PhD in Computer Science from IIT Kharagpur. He was very talented even in student life. Eye-catching results. Also he has put his signature of success in various fields. In that sense, the appointment of a talented person like him as a Director in a reputed organization like IIMO has come as a relief to many. “He knows what the organization needs to do to reach its goals,” said Krishna Kulkarni, chairman of the board of governors.
