Probe without ‘influence or fear’: Delhi HC to police on Faizan’s death

On Tuesday, the judge asked the police, ‘Why the charge sheet was not filed after two years?

The police had told the court in January that they had identified and questioned a head constable in the case.

The police told the court that several policemen from different units had reported during the riots in late February, and based on technical evidence, the police selected a head constable in the Delhi Police. The police have sought eight more weeks for further investigation in the matter.

Meanwhile, advocate Vrinda Grover, representing Faizan’s mother, has submitted that as per the sealed cover report of the police, only the test relating to the voice sample of the police officer is pending.

Grover also said that the investigation has now found that the Jyoti Nagar police station, where Faizan was reportedly in custody till February 24, hours before his death at a hospital, tried to mislead the investigation, Indian Express Reported.

Faizan died in 2020 soon after he was released from a police station where he was taken after he was allegedly attacked by policemen. He was released from the police station late in the evening on 25 February 2020 and died in a hospital on 26 February.
