Priyanka Gandhi will decide if she wants to be CM candidate in UP elections: Salman Khurshid

Former Union minister and Congress leader Salman Khurshid said party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will decide whether she wants to be the chief ministerial candidate or not. Ahead of the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, Khurshid said that the Congress party would fight the UP elections under the leadership of Priyanka.

Speaking to reporters in Prayagraj yesterday, Khurshid said, “The Congress party will contest the UP Assembly elections under the leadership of General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and she herself will decide on the issue whether she will be the party’s chief ministerial candidate or not.”

Speaking about the party president, he said, “We already have a party president so we don’t need any other party president and we are satisfied. It seems people outside (Congress) are not satisfied.”

Meanwhile, on Saturday, the social media department of the Congress unanimously passed a resolution to make Rahul Gandhi the party president. Earlier this week, the Delhi Pradesh Mahila Congress also passed a similar resolution. Congress MP Shashi Tharoor also expressed concern about the party leadership.

“We all want Congress to get a permanent president. No one will speak against Sonia Gandhi. Sonia Gandhi is a leader who has led us so well. But she too has been saying for years that she should quit. wish to.” he said.

The Uttar Pradesh assembly elections are due early next year. In the 2017 assembly elections, BJP had won 312 assembly seats. The party secured 39.67 per cent vote share in the elections to the 403-member assembly. Samajwadi Party (SP) won 47 seats, BSP 19 seats, while Congress could win only seven seats.
