NEW DELHI:BJP and its Bihar ally slammed JDU on Wednesday Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi hard over the former’s remarks against migrants from UP and Bihar at a Congress rally.
Former Bihar deputy CM Sushil Modi, Union commerce minister Piyush Goyal and JD(U) leader and Bihar’s water resources minister Sanjay Jha attacked Channi and emhasised that Priyanka was grinning and applauded the CM when he spoke against the “bhaiyas”, the expression used for workers from UP and Bihar, at a campaign rally.
“The way @Charanjit Channi has abused and threatened Biharis that he will not allow them to enter Punjab is shameful. And most disgusting was that that @prinyankagandhi was clapping in his support. Biharis will never forgive Congress,” tweeted Sushil Modi.
Goyal tweeted, “Congress’s divisive thinking! In UP: I am a girl, I can fight. In
Punjab: Punjab’s daughter-inlaw, drive away the brothers of UP and Bihar. ” Dubbing Channi’s remarks “shameful”, Jhasaid, “It’s abhorrent to see the way Channi has denigrated the hard working people of Bihar and UP. And the glee with which Priyanka Gandhi is endorsing CM’s statement. We strongly con- demn this and ask for an apology from Congress. ,
While Channi called for drawing people from UP and Bihar out of the state, Priyanka cheered and clapped. “Those who come from outside and teach you Punjabiyat, teach them what Punjabiyat is. Punjab is my inlaw’s home state,” she said.
