Priyanka Chopra’s husband Nick Jonas reflects on his diabetes diagnosis

American singer Nick Jonas, who has been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes since the age of 14, has been quite vocal about it. The singer-actor, who is very particular about his health, be it working out or eating right, recently honored National Diabetes Month with his latest social media post. The “Jonas Brothers” singer shared a selfie on her Instagram account on Wednesday and opened up about her diabetes diagnosis. He wrote, “In honor of National Diabetes Month, I’m recognizing the #SeeDiabetes heroes on my story every day.”

The singer went on to describe how she felt “intimidated” at first upon learning of her diagnosis, but with the help of her “incredible support system” she regained the strength to “push”.

“Today resonates with me personally because it’s the 16th anniversary of my diagnosis. I was thirteen years old, playing shows with my brothers.. and I knew in my gut that something wasn’t right, so I Went to my parents and told them I needed to see a doctor. After going over my symptoms, my pediatrician told me I had type 1 diabetes. All the symptoms corresponded to an unknown type. I Was devastated – scared… Did this mean my dream tour of the world and playing our music had to end? But I was committed, as I always have been, not to let it slow me down. There are tough days but I have an incredible support system that I can rely on to help me keep going and don’t be hard on myself when I’m feeling low,” he said.

The singer concluded her post by tagging her company, Beyond Type 1, which aims to educate kids about how to live life with diabetes through social media. “I’m also grateful to have the technology from @dexcom to know where my glucose numbers are going in real-time. That peace of mind really means a lot, and I’m in longer time frames than ever before.” Learn more about my diagnosis and journey as type 1 over at @beyondtype1,” he signed off.
