The opposition got its first punch against Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu and new chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi, who mocked the two for taking a jet to the national capital.
Sidhu and Channi left for New Delhi on Tuesday to hold discussions with the party high command on cabinet and administrative reshuffle in the state. Sidhu shared a photograph of himself, Channi and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Randhawa on Twitter, standing in front of a chartered jet. Sidhu captioned the picture as “In line of duty”.
Minutes later, the Shiromani Akali Dal took a dig at the CM”aam aadmi“Statement from Monday.” After saying that they stand with the common man, INC leaders take private jets to travel just 250 KM from Chandigarh to Delhi. All eyes are on the caste count in the Sidhu-Channi alliance cabinet ahead of next year’s assembly elections. Channi is the first Dalit CM of Punjab, while two deputy CMs are from Jat Sikh and Hindu Khatri communities. With 32% Scheduled Caste population in the state, the cabinet’s choice is also likely to reflect a balancing act to maximize voter access for the next year.
