Sunak said that there is a concept of duty and service in Hinduism, and called it ‘Dharma’, and he said that it was his duty to serve the people of the United Kingdom

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said he became Britain’s prime minister because he felt it was his ‘religion’ during an interview with Piers Morgan earlier this week.

Sunak said that he had toyed with the idea of becoming prime minister following his defeat by Liz Truss in September 2022, but that it was his sense of duty that made him decide that he wanted to serve the people of the United Kingdom.

“I wasn’t thinking about politics when Liz Truss resigned, I had moved on. I believe in public service and feel a sense of duty more than anything. A concept in Hinduism. is called ‘Dharma,’ which roughly translates to duty, and that’s how I was raised,” Sunak told Morgan.

Sunak was elected Prime Minister in October 2022, but before that he unsuccessfully contested the post and was defeated by Liz Truss, who later became the UK’s shortest-serving Prime Minister. It should be noted that Sunak was elected as the head of the Conservative Party and Prime Minister by the members of his own party and not by the people of the UK.

However, he will lead his party in the 2024 general elections in the UK.

During his interview with Piers Morgan, Sunak spoke about his 100 days in office, the release of his tax returns, the problems plaguing the UK’s National Health Service and questions about his personal wealth.

He also answered questions about meeting his wife Akshata Murthy and proposing to her. Sunak said he proposed to his wife in Half Moon Bay, California, when they were both students.

Sunak said he should thank his wife for the support she has given him while running the country.

Talking about his personal wealth, Sunak said he is “financially lucky” when Morgan asked him if he was “filthy rich”.

Talking about her achievements after 100 days in 10 Downing Street, Sunak said she was determined to prevent inflation and the cost of living crisis. He said he would love to give NHS nurses a pay rise but at the moment the money is going where it is most needed.

He also said that he will soon release his tax returns to the public of Britain.
