A 62-year-old priest was lynched by mentally challenged man in East Delhi
The police received the PCR call of the incident at around 5.40 am on Wednesday, the official said. The caller said that a priest was brutally thrashed by a man in Sonia Vihar area.
A police team that was immediately dispatched to the spot identified the injured priest as Soni Ram, following which he was shifted to the hospital.
“During investigation it was revealed that Sonu Bhatt had beaten up Pujari. After which Sonu Bhatt was beaten up by the public and he was admitted to Trauma Center Civil Lines Delhi. Soni Ram was later shifted to GTB Hospital. He didn’t deserve the statement. Later in the evening, information was received from the hospital that Ram succumbed to his injuries,” said the police officer.
Thereafter, the police registered an FIR for murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code at the local police station.
The officer said that the accused is still admitted in the trauma centre.
“During the preliminary investigation, it emerged that Bhatt was not mentally sound and knew the deceased,” police said.
