Price Drop Alert! Tomatoes Are Available At Discounted Prices In THESE Locations

New Delhi: To help consumers, the government is offering kitchen essentials at as low as Rs 90 per kg in places including Delhi, Lucknow, Patna and Kanpur, even as tomato prices rise up to Rs 90 per kg across the country. Have gone 250.

On behalf of the Centre, tomatoes are being sold through vans operated by the National Cooperative Consumers Federation of India (NCCF) and the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (Nafed).

“Discounted sale of tomatoes (on Saturday, July 15) at these locations in Delhi. The locations in Noida are being finalised. Rohit Kumar Singh, Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs, tweeted on July 14, “(From July 15), the sale will start at 11 am with 15 mobile vans each in Lucknow and Kanpur.”

Due to weak weather and frequent rains, the retail price of tomato has been rising sharply over the past several weeks and touched Rs 244 per kg in major cities on Friday.

By evening on Friday, 14 July, about 80% of the 17,000 kg of tomatoes were sold. NCCF Managing Director Anees Joseph Chandra told PTI that “from tomorrow, we will increase the reach and volume in Delhi-NCR.”

According to government data, the average retail price of tomato across India was Rs 116.76 per kg, with the highest price being Rs 244 per kg and the lowest being Rs 40.

On Thursday, tomato was the costliest food item in metro areas, costing Rs 178 per kg in Delhi, Rs 147 per kg in Mumbai, Rs 145 per kg in Kolkata and Rs 132 per kg in Chennai.
