Prez Murmu to Lead Nation in Celebrating 74th R-Day; 6 Agniveers to Also Take Part in Parade

Six ‘Agniveers’ will be part of the Navy’s marching contingent during the 74th Republic Day celebrations on Thursday, when a ceremonial parade takes place on the Path of Duty amid patriotic fervour.

This was stated in a statement issued by the Ministry of Defense on the eve of the ceremony.

President Draupadi Murmu will lead the country in celebrating Republic Day, and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi will be the chief guest at the ceremony. Officials had earlier said that the military assets that will be displayed during the parade include equipment made in India, reflecting the spirit of Atmanirbhar Bharat.

The Defense Ministry said in a statement that the main battle tank Arjun, Nag Missile System (NAMIS) and K-9 Vajra will also be displayed.

“The Indian Navy contingent will comprise 144 young sailors led by Lieutenant Commander Disha Amrit, who will be the Contingent Commander. For the first time, three women and six Agniveers are included in the marching contingent.

This will be followed by the Navy tableau, which has been designed on the theme ‘Indian Navy – Combat Ready, Credible, Cohesive and Future Proof’. It will showcase Indian Navy’s multi-dimensional capabilities, indigenously designed and built flagship assets under ‘Nari Shakti’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.” The ceremony will begin with Prime Minister Narendra Modi Visited the National War Memorial and paid tributes to the martyrs by laying wreaths. The parade will begin with the President taking the salute. The parade will be commanded by second generation army officer, Parade Commander Lt Gen Dheeraj Seth. Major General Bhavnish Kumar, Chief of Staff, Delhi Area, will be the parade second-in-command.

Three Param Vir Chakra awardees and three Ashok Chakra awardees will also participate in the parade, and a “Veteran Tableau” will also be part of it – ‘India’s Amrit Kaal with the Pledge of Veterans’ Commitment’.

For the first time, a combined band and marching contingent of the Egyptian Armed Forces will take part in the ceremonial parade.

The contingent will consist of 144 soldiers, representing the main branches of the Egyptian Armed Forces, led by Colonel Elkharasawi.

The first contingent in the uniform of 61 Cavalry will be led by Captain Raizada Shaurya Bali. The 61 Cavalry is the only serving active horse cavalry regiment in the world, “with an amalgamation of all state horse units,” it said.

The Indian Air Force contingent led by Squadron Leader Sindhu Reddy will comprise 144 air warriors and four officers. The Air Force tableau, designed on the theme ‘Indian Air Force’s Power Beyond Borders’, will display a revolving globe, highlighting the extended reach of the IAF, enabling it to provide humanitarian assistance across borders. Defense Ministry officials said on 18 January that the government had put 32,000 tickets up for sale online to the public. And, for the first time, all official invitations for the ceremony will be sent online, he said.

As many as 50 aircraft will take part in the 74th Republic Day celebrations on duty, including an aerial display by nine Rafales and the Navy’s IL-38, which will be displayed at the event for the first time and probably the last time, a senior official said earlier.
