Presidential election 2022: NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu files nomination

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA’s presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu on Friday filed her nomination papers at the Parliament Library Building in the national capital. His name was proposed for nomination by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which was supported by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.

The second set of proposers had chief ministers of BJP-ruled states, the third set were MLAs and MPs from Himachal and Haryana, and the fourth set consisted of MLAs and MPs from Gujarat.



PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President JP Nadda, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Minister Piyush Goyal, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Union Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda, Union Minister and BJP leader General VK Singh (Retd), Bhupendra Yadav and Giriraj Singh were present in Parliament during the filing of nominations.

Chief Ministers of all BJP-ruled states including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Assam Chief Minister and Hemant Biswa Sarma were present during the filing of his nominations.

NDA partners, Yuvajana Shramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders V Vijayasai Reddy and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Tukuni Sahu, BJD MPs Dr Sasmit Patra and Jagannath Sarka are also present.

Draupadi Murmu, the first woman tribal leader to file her nomination for the country’s top constitutional post, is a veteran politician from Odisha with a vast background in education, showing that she will uplift the tribal sections of the country.

Draupadi Murmu, who was declared the BJP-led NDA’s presidential candidate, is a former governor of Jharkhand and a former minister from Odisha. He will face opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha in the presidential election on July 18. If elected, she will be India’s first tribal president and the country’s second woman president.

Draupadi Murmu is the first presidential candidate of a major political party or coalition from Odisha. She continued to break barriers and was the first woman governor of Jharkhand. She served as the Governor of Jharkhand from 2015 to 2021.

Born in a poor tribal family in a village in Odisha’s backward district of Mayurbhanj, Draupadi Murmu completed her studies despite challenging circumstances. He taught at Sri Aurobindo Integral Education Centre, Rairangpur.

Born on June 20, 1958, she did her BA at Ramadevi Women’s College Bhubaneswar. He started his political career as the Vice President of Rairangpur NAC.

Draupadi Murmu was a member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly from Rairangpur between 2000 and 2004. As a minister, he held the portfolios of Transport and Commerce, Animal Husbandry and Fisheries.

He again served as an MLA in the Odisha Legislative Assembly from 2004 to 2009. In 2007, the Odisha Legislative Assembly honored him with the ‘Neelkanth Award’ for the best MLA. He served as a junior assistant in the Department of Irrigation and Power between 1979 and 1983. She has held several organizational positions in the BJP and was the Vice President of the State ST Morcha in 1997.

Murmu was a national executive member of the BJP’s ST Morcha from 2013 to 2015 and served as the BJP district chief of Mayurbhanj (West) in 2010 and 2013. Between 2006 and 2009, she was the chief of the ST Morcha of the BJP in Odisha. She was a member of the National Executive of BJP ST Morcha from 2002 to 2009.
