Presidential Election 2022: Ahead of the presidential election scheduled for July 18, BJP MLAs from Karnataka were shifted to a private hotel in Bengaluru on Saturday evening. Following instructions from the party high command, BJP chief whip M Satheesh Reddy asked the MLAs to stay at the hotel till Monday morning before leaving for Vidhana Soudha to cast their votes.

A BJP MLA said, “The high command wants to send a message that our party is serious about Draupadi Murmu’s candidature.

The state BJP unit has organized a mock voting drill for the MLAs on Sunday. Sources said the three persons, who were trained at a party session in Delhi on how voters should go about their exercise, will conduct the exercise on Sunday.

Meanwhile, BJP President JP Nadda had dinner with party MPs and asked them to ensure cent percent voting in the upcoming presidential election. He said that Nadda also directed the MPs to ensure that there is no mistake in casting their vote in the Presidential and Vice Presidential elections.

The BJP president asked the MPs to come prepared for the monsoon session of Parliament beginning July 18 and avoid taking leave during the session.

Also, the Aam Aadmi Party said that they will extend their support to the opposition’s presidential candidate Yashwant Sinha in the upcoming presidential elections to be held in the country.

AAP MP Sanjay Singh said, “AAP will support opposition’s presidential candidate Yashwant Sinha. We respect Draupadi Murmu, but we will vote for Yashwant Sinha.”

Presidential and Vice Presidential Elections

In June, the Election Commission of India announced the schedule for the election of the 16th President of India. The elections will be held on July 18.

Counting of votes will take place on July 21.

President Ram Nath Kovind’s term ends on July 24.

The President is elected by an electoral college consisting of elected members of the Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies. It also includes the Legislative Assemblies of Delhi and Puducherry.

Voting for the Vice Presidential election will be held on August 6. The BJP-led NDA has named tribal leader Draupadi Murmu as its presidential candidate. Along with this, Yashwant Sinha, the candidate of the United Opposition, is also in the race.

Earlier in the day, the BJP nominated West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar, a Jat leader from Rajasthan with a socialist background, as the NDA’s vice-president candidate.
