President should withdraw Padma award given to Kangana Ranaut: Anand Sharma

Senior Congress leader Anand Sharma on Thursday termed the remarks made by the actor as derogatory. Kangana Ranaut And said that the President should withdraw the Padma award given to him.

He also asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to break his silence and state whether he supports such views, otherwise the government should take appropriate legal action against Ranaut.

After describing the country’s independence in 1947 as “beggar”, Ranaut on Thursday courted a major controversy and claimed that India got independence only after 2014 when the Modi-led government came to power.

Former Union minister Sharma said on Twitter, “The PM should break his silence and tell the nation if he supports Ms. Ranaut’s views. If not, the government should take appropriate legal action against such people.”

“The Honorable President should immediately withdraw the Padma award given to Ms. Ranaut. Before giving such awards, psychological evaluation should be done so that such persons do not disrespect the nation and its heroes,” he said.

Describing Kangana Ranaut’s remarks as “shocking and derogatory”, the Deputy Leader of Congress in Rajya Sabha said, “Ms Kangana Ranaut’s statement insults the courageous freedom fighters led by Mahatma Gandhi, Nehru and Sardar Patel, but sacrifices Revolutionaries like Sardar Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad and many others.”

Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda also criticized Ranaut and termed his remarks as “inane”.

He said on Twitter, “Kangana Ranaut’s harsh statement is an insult to India’s freedom struggle led by Gandhiji and countless freedom fighters. Her statement is absolutely not acceptable and her Padma Shri should be withdrawn.”
