President Kovind hosts Indian contingent of Tokyo Olympics at ‘High Tea’

New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday hosted the Indian contingent of the Tokyo Olympics at a ‘high tea’ at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Center here and said “the entire nation is proud of our Olympians for bringing glory to the nation”.

President Kovind congratulated the best performing athletes in the Tokyo Olympics.

“This team has won the most medals for the country in Olympic history. The whole country is proud of your achievements,” President Kovind said.

“We are especially proud of our daughters, who despite facing many challenges, gave a world-class performance. You gave us a reason to celebrate amid Covid. When you participate in a sport, sometimes you win and sometimes you lose, but every time you learn a new thing.”

Addressing the Indian contingent of Tokyo Olympics 2020, President Kovind said, “Your achievements have inspired the youth to take up sports.”

Praising Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra, he said, “After many years when our tricolor was hoisted and our national anthem was played, the sentiments of all the countrymen were attached to Neeraj Chopra.”

President Kovind also appreciated the role played by the coaches, support staff, family members and well wishers in contributing to the preparedness of the athletes.

“I want you all to set new records in the future,” ANI quoted President Kovind as saying.

“I am extremely happy that you took victory humbly and accepted defeat with dignity. I want to tell you that 130 crore Indians were praying for your success and supporting you with enthusiasm.”
