hear the news

The opposition in Bihar has opened its cards regarding the presidential election. The opposition parties led by Rashtriya Janata Dal have decided to support former Union Minister Yashwant Sinha in the presidential election. Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Tejashwi Yadav said if the BJP-led NDA had revealed the name of former Jharkhand governor Draupadi Murmu earlier, things could have been different.

RJD leader Yadav said it should be kept in mind that the opposition parties had discussed and decided on Sinha long before the name was revealed by the ruling BJP-led alliance. Yadav was talking to reporters after presiding over a meeting. In the meeting, representatives of RJD, Congress and Left parties jointly announced their support for Sinha.

The presidential election is due on 18 July. The BJP had last week appealed to Yadav and his allies to extend support to Murmu. To this he said that if the BJP had not waited till the last minute to announce its candidate, things could have turned out differently. We can no longer hold back at this stage. The RJD, Left and Congress have a total of 115 MLAs in the 243-member Bihar Assembly.
