Late goals from Stuart Dallas and substitute Daniel James gave Leeds United a crucial 3-1 win over Burnley on Sunday, a win that put the home side eight points from the Premier League relegation zone.

Leeds had not played since 18 December before the trip to Burnley due to the coronavirus-related postponement, and that extra break allowed them to bring back some much-needed key players from injury.

The hosts looked quick from the start and dominated the first half, deserved to go ahead at the interval after Jack Harrison found the net from a tight angle in the 39th minute.

Top goalscorer Maxwell Cornett’s introduction at the break gave Burnley more power in the attack, with the Ivorian firing a free kick from 25 meters to silence Eland Rode in the 54th minute.

But with the pressure on, Dallas scored a crucial second for Leeds from the edge of the penalty area 13 minutes in time to evoke wild scenes of celebration.

As the visitors pressed for a leveler, James’ stoppage-time header sealed the first win in five league games for Leeds, who finished 16th on 19 points, ahead of 18th-placed Burnley. Eight were clear, having won just once in the entire season.
