Cristiano Ronaldo made a comeback start as Manchester United won a 2-1 win at West Ham thanks to a penalty in stoppage time for the hosts straight after Mark Noble was brought off the bench on Sunday.

The club’s captain was sent by manager David Moyes to collect a penalty after Luke Shaw took over the field.

The long-serving midfielder, who retires at the end of the season, had not missed a spotkick since December 2016, but was denied the winner by United goalkeeper David de Gea.

It was a dramatic end to an exciting match in which Jesse Lingard scored the winner for United against the club he had starred in on loan the previous season. England forward in the 89th minute.

Ronaldo had earlier scored his fourth goal in three matches since his return to United, canceling Saeed Benrahma’s deflected opener for the hosts.
