Pravat Kumar Roul appointed new VC of OUAT – Times of India

Bhubaneswar:Pravat Kumar Roul was appointed as vice-chancellor of Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) Bhubaneswar. Ganeshi Lal, Odisha governor and chancellor of state public universities, appointed him on Friday.
Roul will stay in the office for a period of three years with effect from the date he assumes office as such or until further orders whichever is earlier. This professor is presently working as managing director of the Agricultural Promotion and Investment Corporation of Odisha (APICOL).
He has more than 29 years of teaching experience. He has published 24 books and successfully guided nine PhD scholars. He is not only the alumnus of the university but also worked in this institution as a teacher, researcher and administrator before working with APICOL.
He was dean extension, dean veterinary and director of planning, monitoring and evaluation in OUAT. This experience will help him to chalk out a plan for the institution.
“Now we want to envision OUAT as globally recognised and locally relevant farm university of Odisha. We will focus on teaching, research and extension works,” said Roul, adding, “We will try to address requirements of the university taking all stakeholders including students, farmers and staff into confidence.”
In May this year, Pawan Kumar Agrawal’s tenure as OUAT VC ended. Later bureaucrat Sanjeev Chopra, additional chief secretary, joined as VC of this university on May 13 to look after the institution till the appointment of a fulltime VC.
Agriculture and farmers’ empowerment department had issued advertisement for the post of OUAT VC on December 3 last year. The process of recruitment was delayed after some candidates filed a petition before the high court complaining about the selection process two months ago.
The selection committee had rejected the application of some candidates for the VC post. They went to court against the process. After the court’s order, the process was again started from the beginning. Governor, who received three names from the selection committee, selected one after an interview of the trio.
