Prateik Babbar says Sanjay Leela Bhansali wanted to give him Saawariya: ‘I was in rehab’

Prateik Babbar almost made his acting debut opposite Sanjay Leela Bhansali! The actor, who is the son of actors Raj Babbar and the late Smita Patil, made his acting debut with Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na, playing the brother of Genelia D’Souza (now Deshmukh). However, in a recent interview, the actor revealed that SLB had plans to rope him in for Saawariya. But the actor was in rehab at that time.

The film marked the acting debut of Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor. Salman Khan also played a cameo role in this film. In a recent interview with Mashable India, Prateek revealed that Sanjay Leela Bhansali had tried to contact him through his home number. Prateek also recalled that he came to know about Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s invitation to his house after many years.

“Actually I have a funny story. Mr. Sanjay Leela Bhansali was calling my house for Saawariya when I was 18, when I was in rehab. I was too young, I was in rehab so it didn’t work Could. But my grandparents told me a few years later.”

The actor said that he does not regret that he missed out on the film as he did not want to be an actor at that time in his life. He said he just ‘stumbled into it’ and that eventually became his calling. “Since both my people were actors – and good actors. I wanted to be a rockstar at that time away from the acting world. I wanted to grow my hair, put on eye makeup, put on face makeup and scream on stage. Before that I wanted to be a cricketer.”

In less than a decade in the industry, Prateek has done many films and series. These include Dum Maro Dum, My Friend Pinto, Ek Deewana Tha, Chhichhore and Four More Shots Please!
