KANPUR: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Kanpur mayor Pramila Pandey was booked by the Election Commission (EC) for breaching the secrecy of voting by getting her video and photo shot in the polling booth while voting.
The mayor allegedly posted the video and photo on her official Facebook page as well.
At the same time, taking cognizance of this matter, the Election Commission has taken strict action against her.

Kanpur Nagar’s district election officer & district magistrate Neha Sharma said that an FIR is being lodged against Pramila Pandey.
“As a result of Pramila Pandey breaching the secrecy of voting at Hudson School polling station in Kanpur, FIR is being lodged against her under relevant sections,” tweeted Kanpur Nagar DM.
While sharing a video and a photo on Facebook, the mayor wrote — “Pahle Matdan, phir Jalpan (Voting first, refreshments later) I exercised my voting rights at the Hudson polling booth, all of you are requested to cast your vote.”
Apart from Pramila Pandey, the district election officer has also started the process of registering an FIR against the former president of Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha (BJYM) Nawab Singh. Information regarding this was shared on the Twitter account of the DM of Kanpur Nagar.
“FIR is being lodged against Nawab Singh, former President, BJP Yuva Morcha under the relevant sections for breaching the secrecy of voting in the polling booth.”
Official sources informed that former BJP Yuva Morcha leader Nawab Singh shot his video while casting his vote by pressing the button of the EVM in the booth, and later made it viral on social media.
Taking cognizance of the same, DM Neha Sharma has asked her subordinates to book a case in this regard.
