MBA Graduate Commits Suicide In Varanasi

A young man from Patna, Bihar, who was depressed because he couldn’t find a job despite having an MBA degree, hung himself in a hotel in Varanasi. His reason for choosing Varanasi is currently unknown.

The young man had a love marriage two years ago, and his wife’s parents lived in Gorakhpur. When news of his suicide spread, his wife also jumped from a terrace in Gorakhpur and took her own life. They had been staying at her parents’ house. Police have taken custody of both bodies, which are now in the mortuary, and forensic experts have examined the scene.

Sub-Inspector Sandeep Sharma stated that Harish Bagesh, 27, lived in Barh, Patna. Two years ago, he married Sanchita Srivastava Selv from Gorakhpur. Harish had completed his MBA and was working in a private bank in Mumbai. He returned home after his wife Sanchita fell ill.

His wife moved in with her father Ram Sharan Srivastava at their home in Gorakhpur. Harish left Gorakhpur after asking his father-in-law to go back to his village, Barh. Instead of going to Patna, he came to Varanasi. He booked a room in an online homestay in Atal Nagar Colony Mawaiya near Sarnath and checked in at 8 pm on Friday night.

While at the homestay, he ordered food online. When he received a message on his wife’s phone indicating she was in Varanasi, he tried calling her but she didn’t answer. A friend sent to check in on him and eventually found his body hanging in the room. Before the family could understand what happened, Harish had passed away.

Ram Sharan Srivastava, a senior mental health doctor in Gorakhpur and Harish’s father-in-law, mentioned that Harish had fallen into depression and developed addiction issues after losing his job. He speculated that unemployment and depression may have led him to commit suicide by hanging himself. Police recovered narcotics (ganja), cigarettes, a lighter, a mobile phone, and the rope used in the hanging.
