Due to the deteriorating pollution situation in Delhi-NCR, the Haryana government has closed schools in four districts of the state namely Gurugram, Sonipat, Faridabad and Jhajjar. These four districts come under NCR. Along with this, all government and private offices have also been asked to get employees to work from home.

The Haryana government has taken this decision due to the rising level of pollution. The Delhi government has already taken a decision in this regard. Haryana Government has implemented new instructions with immediate effect. These instructions will remain in force till November 17. The district administration will ensure their wide publicity by making announcements in their jurisdiction.

Haryana government took these important decisions

  • Physical education in all government and non-government schools will remain closed till November 17.
  • To reduce pollution, the number of vehicles on the roads will be reduced by 30 percent.
  • Preference should be given to work from home in private-government offices to reduce vehicles on the roads.
  • There will be a complete ban on all types of constructional and developmental activities.
  • All stone crushers and hot mix plants will remain completely closed.
  • No municipal body will be allowed to burn garbage.
  • Burning of any kind of residue has also been banned.
  • Manual road cleaning will also be prohibited. Water sprinkling will be ensured on the roads to check dust pollution.
  • All the District Magistrates will constitute a Joint Inspection Team to ensure compliance of these rules and comprehensive investigation.

Delhi is the most polluted city in the world

Delhi’s air, which has worsened after Diwali, still remains in the severe category. How bad is the condition of Delhi and its surroundings, you can understand from this that Delhi is at the forefront of the 10 most polluted cities of the world. The Indian cities of Mumbai and Kolkata are also included in this list. Switzerland based climate group IQAir has released this new list. This group monitors air quality and pollution. The group is a technology partner in the United Nations Environment Programme. At the same time, the AQI level in Bulandshahr is 444 and in Lucknow is 187. On the other hand, the quality of air is poor in 15 districts of the state including Jaipur, Udaipur, Ajmer, Pushkar in the adjoining state of Rajasthan.

Health damage due to increased PM2.5 level

According to the CPCB, the level of lung-damaging PM2.5 (very fine particulate dust) in the air of Delhi-NCR crossed the 300 mark around midnight. It was 381 micrograms per cubic meter at 4 pm. For the air to be safe, the PM2.5 level should be 60 micrograms per cubic meter. At present, it is about 6 times more than the safe limit. PM2.5 is so small that it can cause lung cancer and serious respiratory diseases.
