Welcoming the results of News18 Poll of Poll, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that the BJP will win more than 22 seats in the upcoming assembly elections.

News18 Poll of Polls has predicted victory for the ruling party in India’s smallest state by area. According to surveyors, the BJP can win 18-22 seats in the 40-seat assembly. Half way in Goa is 21 seats. Congress is projected to win five to nine seats, while AAP may win five to nine seats. Independents can again emerge as kingmakers with four to eight seats.

The Goa Assembly elections will be held in a single phase on February 14 and the counting of votes will take place on March 10.

“I welcome the opinion polls. The ground reality is also similar. We will win over 22 seats in 2022 and will win in Goa,” Sawant told News18.

The biggest issue in Goa is that BJP is not giving tickets to big leaders. It also needs to make a mark in South Goa, where there is always a tough fight for the party. It looks like the election is going to be a contest between independent candidates. The most prominent face among them is Utpal Parrikar, who left the BJP to contest as an independent from Panaji.

On the controversy surrounding late Manohar Parrikar’s son Utpal Parrikar not being given ticket from Panaji and eventually quitting the BJP, Sawant said the tickets are decided keeping in mind the winning potential. The party has taken this decision keeping in mind its ability to talk to all senior leaders and win.

The ruling party has fielded sitting MLA Atanasio Monserrate from the Panaji seat, represented by Manohar Parrikar for a long time.
