Jammu and Kashmir has been in the shadow of controversies since the independence of the country. This dispute, which became the reason for the first war between India and Pakistan, went on the path of terrorism after a while, instead of being political. During this, efforts continued to improve relations with Delhi.

Bakshi Ghulam Mohammad was the Prime Minister of Jammu and Kashmir from 1953 to 1964. GM Sadiq was made the first Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir after the end of the post of Prime Minister in March 1965.

During the public meeting of 13 November 1988, VP Singh started a new political party named Jan Morcha (People’s Front) along with Mufti Mohammad Sayeed (left) and other local leaders. Sayeed had joined the Jan Morcha led by Vishwanath Pratap Singh in 1987. VP Singh also made him the Home Minister in his government. In 1989, he resigned from the post of minister.

After the breakup of the alliance, Mehbooba had said that we knew that this step would be suicidal. Despite that, we put everything at stake.
