On the lines of Haryana, CM Bhagwant Mann has been surrounded by demanding land for a separate assembly and High Court for Punjab. Congress is furious with CM’s statement. Punjab Congress President Raja Vading and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Partap Singh Bajwa said that Mann was doing a definite loss to Punjab. Why do they need to ask for land?

The place where the present Punjab Legislative Assembly and Punjab and Haryana High Court are built, that building belongs to Punjab itself. Haryana should build both these buildings outside Chandigarh. Bajwa even said that Bhagwant Mann seems to have outsourced his Twitter account to Delhi. At the same time, the Akali Dal said that the CM should not make such absurd demands.

Bhagwant Mann’s tweet, on which the ruckus started
Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar had tweeted that Union Home Minister Amit Shah has approved land in Chandigarh for a separate assembly building. Shortly after this, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann tweeted. He said that on the lines of Haryana, Punjab should also be given land in Chandigarh to make assembly and High Court.

Honor weakening Punjab’s right over Chandigarh: Bajwa
Congress Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly Partap Singh Bajwa asked CM Bhagwant Mann not to dilute Punjab’s right over Chandigarh by demanding separate land for assembly and High Court building. Their current buildings are of Punjab only. By giving up his rights over these heritage buildings, the CM is working to lose Chandigarh for sure. If the CM is not careful then such statements will harm the interests of Punjab.

Punjab’s right on Chandigarh’s land and government buildings: Vading
Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Vading said, “Chief Minister, only Punjab has the right on Chandigarh’s lands and government buildings. For example, under the Punjab Re-organization Act 1966, it has been decided that there is a need to make Haryana a separate capital. Please don’t dilute Punjab’s right over Chandigarh with such statements.

Akali Dal opposes Haryana giving land in Chandigarh
Akali Dal President Sukhbir Badal said that getting Chandigarh Punjab is a written commitment. Sant Harchand Singh Longowal, the then head of SAD, sacrificed his life for this. The central government has no right to give even an inch of Chandigarh’s land to Haryana. Chandigarh city belongs to Punjab only. Instead of giving land to Haryana for a separate assembly building, the Center should hand over Chandigarh to Punjab.
