Police raid the headquarters of United Union London – 20 officers were reported to have boxes of files, papers and a computer.

Unite said an unidentified employee was under criminal investigation and that his office at the union base in Holborn was searched by detectives under a warrant.

A Unite spokesperson said today: ‘Police are conducting a criminal investigation into a Unite employee. On Wednesday 6 April, Holborn arrived under warrant and was searched by police at the employee’s office at Unite Headquarters in London.

Unite was formed in 2007 when the Transport and General Workers union merged with Amicus, and is the second largest union in the UK with 1.24 million members.

Unite’s secretary general is Sharon Graham, who was elected in August 2021 and replaces Len McCluskey, who has governed the union since 2011. But there is no suggestion that either Ms. Graham or Mr. McCluskey is being investigated.
