‘Police harassed Shuvendu Mamta, not friendly to democracy’, ‘disappointed’ Nadda

After the election, Kolkata Police has been accused of harassment against Shuvendu Adhikari. BJP’s All India President JP Nadda expressed ‘disappointment’ over the incident. He also alleged “huge disturbances” in the Kolkata elections.

“It is disheartening that Mamata Banerjee is using the police to harass Shuvendu Adhikari, veteran BJP leader in West Bengal Assembly and Leader of Opposition while approaching the State Election Commission,” Nadda said on Twitter night. The news of huge irregularities in elections and misuse of administration is not conducive to democracy.

There have been allegations of sporadic unrest over the polling in Kolkata Poornima on Sunday. BJP has demanded re-election in all the wards. The leaders of the Gerua camp had gone to the Raj Bhavan in the evening to file a complaint regarding the ‘violence’ in the elections. After meeting Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar, he directly reached the State Commission office. According to the BJP, the police stopped the entry of BJP leaders including Shuvendu. During this, BJP leaders got into an argument with the police officers. After waiting for sometime Shuvendu came out and said, ‘(West Bengal Assembly) Opposition leader has been attacked by Kolkata Police. The Earth is round. In this state as Congress has become zero, CPM has become zero, Tolmul party has also become zero. PC-Wipo can’t last this thing longer than sand dams. Its downfall is inevitable. At the same time, challenging the State Election Commissioner Saurav Das, Shuvendu said, “If you have the guts, then cancel this election and arrange for re-polling.” You have tarnished the glory of a constitutional institution like the Election Commission.
