Nagpur police probing the cheating case lodged by cricketer Umesh Yadav is mulling to attach the properties of his former manager booked for cheating, an official said on Tuesday.

The accused, Shailesh Thackeray, allegedly used Rs 44 lakh deposited by the fast bowler in his bank account to buy a property in Nagpur city and instead bought a commercial block in his name, an official said. The officer said the police found Rs 54,000 in Thackeray’s bank account, while there was no amount in his other account.

Thackeray has not been arrested yet, while an FIR was lodged against him last week on charges of cheating and criminal breach of trust.

Officials of the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) on Sunday searched Thackeray’s house in the city’s Koradi area and seized documents related to the property, he said.

“Thackeray has two bank accounts. There is a balance of Rs 54,000 in one account while there is no money in the other account. The police is considering attaching Thackeray’s properties.”

As per the first information report, Yadav, a resident of Koradi area, had deposited money in Thackeray’s bank account to buy a commercial block in a cooperative society located near the Gandhi Sagar lake in the city.

However, Thackeray took the identified property in his own name. The official said that when Yadav came to know about the fraud, he asked Thackeray to transfer the plot in his name, but the latter refused and also did not return the money.
