Police have recorded statements of staff at a school here over madrassa-type recitation of prayers, alleging the Vishwa Hindu Parishad on an Urdu prayer written by Allama Iqbal.

Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) Vinay Kumar said the school’s headmaster Nahid Siddiqui has been suspended and an inquiry has been ordered against Shiksha Mitra (para teacher) Waziruddin.

He said that the incident took place at a government upper primary school in Faridpur.

Superintendent of Police (Rural) Rajkumar Aggarwal said on Friday, “We have recorded the statements of the school staff and sent the video of the alleged incident for forensic examination.” In the video, children can be heard singing, “Mere Allah burai se bachna mujhko, nek jo rah ho us par chalana mujhkol… lab pe aati he dua ban ke tamanna meri…” Some members of the local VHP unit accused Siddiqui and Siddiqui. Kumar said Waziruddin was accused of hurting the religious sentiments of people in a Hindu-dominated area.

The VHP members also alleged that the accused were trying to convert the students.

On the complaint of VHP city president Sompal Rathod, an FIR was registered against the headmaster and Shikshamitra on Wednesday.
