POCSO: Child welfare committee to crack down on crimes against children in Mysore Mysuru News – Times of India

Concerned about the increase in child marriage, cases registered under Protection of children from sexual offenses (poxo) Act, Missing Children, Child Labor and Harassment, Child Welfare Officers have planned to meet more often to address the delay in redressal of complaints regarding children.

“Till now there was no uniformity in respect of meetings between committees across Karnataka,” said an official. “Some CWCs meet six days a month, while others meet eight or 10 times. Now there will be uniformity. In case of emergency, meetings will be held on other days also.

Kamala said: “There is a need to create awareness in schools to prevent cases of child marriage and POCSO crimes. There are many cases of school dropouts with neighbors and fellow residents which later turn into marriage or POCSO matters. ”
He said that more than a dozen types of cases including child adoption, begging, RTE related, molestation and missing complaints are brought before the committee.
