PM Prioritising Energy Sector in North East, Says Union Minister Puri

Participating in the run-up program of the India Energy Week event here on Monday night, Puri said the Prime Minister’s priority is to put the sector on a high growth path and he is laying a lot of emphasis on the energy sector.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has said that the energy sector of the North East has always been given priority.

India Energy Week will be held in Bengaluru from 6 to 8 February.

Without giving details, the Union Minister said that several big projects in the region are also in the pipeline.

The Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas was also present at the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) and the Government of Assam for setting up three bamboo nurseries.

Each nursery will cover an area of ​​five hectares for secondary hardening of tissue cultured bamboo plants and will be established at Golaghat, Nagaon and Sonitpur.

He also interacted with the farmers who are supplying bamboo on a sustainable basis to the Assam Bio-Refinery, the first of its kind 2G (second generation) bio-refinery with bamboo biomass as feedstock implemented by Numaligarh Refinery Limited.

Second generation biorefineries use a non-petroleum-based process to produce fuels and chemicals with lower greenhouse gas emissions.
