Addressing the gathering on the occasion, PM Modi said that he saw happiness and satisfaction on the faces of the new appointees. He further said that most of the new recruits come from humble backgrounds, many of whom are the first in five generations of their families to get a government job. He highlighted on this occasion that it goes beyond getting a government job. “In central jobs, the recruitment process has become more streamlined and time-bound,” PM Modi said before remarking that “transparent recruitment and promotions instill confidence in the youth.”

After congratulating the newly appointed on getting the job, he told the people present that in the coming days lakhs of people will be appointed in government jobs. He made this comment in the light of job fairs being organized regularly in several states and union territories.

The government’s initiative and the event come at a time when India’s unemployment rate has registered a steep rise. Data from the Center for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) accessed on January 1 shows the unemployment rate hit a 16-month high of 8.30 per cent in December. According to a Mint report, this was a jump of 30 basis points from 8 per cent in November.

The PM further said that several newly appointed persons will interact with the public as representatives of the government. They will be able to create an impact in their own way, he added.

As part of the employability programme, the experience and learning imparted by the Karmayogi Start-Up module to the newly recruited officers will also be shared. The Karmayogi Induction Module is an online introductory course for all new recruits in various government departments.
